3 driving dangers as children return to school

On Behalf of | Aug 21, 2025 | Personal Injury

As summer break draws to a close, parents and children’s minds will be turning to the return to the classroom. For some people, this could be marked by an accident that mars their year or even their life.

Here are some of the things to be aware of on the roads at this time.

1. Drivers forgetting a speed limit is back in place

Some speed limits that are in place to protect children going to school are lifted over the summer.  Drivers could well cause an accident if they fail to realize that school has restarted and the speed limit is back in place. Even if the limit applies the whole year, some drivers may choose to treat it as only applicable during term time, and once again cause a collision if they fail to slow down when the area gets busy with schoolkids once more.

2. Parents rushed off their feet

The first few days back at school can be a little manic for many families, as they struggle to get everyone back in the rhythm of term-time routines. The children may struggle to get out of bed and ready on time, causing the parents to be in a rush and stressed. This may leave them distracted on the road.

3. Increased traffic making people late

Drivers do not need to have children to be affected by the increase in traffic in the mornings. When they suddenly encounter more traffic than there has been for the past few months, they may end up late and be tempted to speed to make up time. This makes it more likely they cause a collision.

Anyone injured in an accident on the roads may need to claim compensation, and legal guidance can help them do so.
